Due to most schools shutting down for the time being and some not having the capacity to do virtual learning yet, many families are looking to educate from home. Here are some of the online resources I’ve recommended to other families over the summer or have used myself as supplementary resources in an elementary classroom! Many have always been free but some are now free for families to access throughout these school closures.
The sources that kids are more able to use independently, after some introduction on your part, include - Storyline Online, Epic!, Raz-Kids, CosmicKids Yoga, Art for Kids Hub, BrainPop, and abcya. There are many links, google docs, and articles with resources being shared around, however, I find many to be overwhelming to review, even as a teacher. Here is my vetted list that is comprehensive enough to cover all core subjects. Just type the name into a search engine and the site should pop up. Hope you find these useful!
*Some resources go beyond elementary ages, i.e. Khan Academy, MobyMax, BrainPop, etc.
These resources can be scheduled into your day to help provide structure for your kids. Check out our article on 5 ways to support children’s emotional well-being during the coronavirus for more general guidelines on supporting your kids’ social and emotional learning during this time.
