04/15/21 - BETTER KIDS HELPS TO LAUNCH BIG HEART WORLD, A NEW SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING INITIATIVE FOR FAMILIES AND EDUCATORS

Better Kids Joins Noggin, Sparkler Learning, and More than a Dozen Partner Organizations to Focus American Parents, Caregivers, and Educators on Social and Emotional Learning for Young Children

NEW YORK —  Better Kids today helped to launch Big Heart World, a new effort focused on early childhood education and social and emotional learning. Big Heart World (BigHeartWorld.org) is a free and publicly available resource that aims to help parents and educators address the pressing social and emotional needs that America’s young children have right now during COVID-19 and to provide action-oriented tools and resources that help grown-ups support children’s healthy social and emotional development.

“We are honored to offer Better Kids’ expertise in social emotional learning and play to support children’s social emotional growth with engaging resources,” said Ondine Bullot, the chief executive officer and founder of Better Kids. “We’ve witnessed the wonderful positive impact that the interactive games, meditations, and learning resources in our app Wisdom: The World of Emotions has had on children’s mental health during the pandemic. We are excited to support even more families and educators through this Big Heart World initiative.”

The Big Heart World initiative will share monthly content, in English and Spanish, focused on the following core areas of social and emotional learning:

  1. Learning About Me — Awareness of self: identity & belonging, feelings and self-regulation

  2. Learning About You — Awareness of others: empathy, appreciation of diversity

  3. Learning About Us — Relationships with others: interpersonal strategies

Big Heart World will share free resources, aligned with monthly themes, including: music videos from Noggin’s Big Heart Beats album; Little Kids, Big Hearts podcast and discussion guide; co-play activities that parents and educators can use to practice social and emotional skills with children; expert tips; a parent guide and educator guide; and more.

Big Heart World launch partners include the following organizations: Abriendo Puertas; AppleTree Institute; Better Kids; Bright by Text; The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading; Children’s Museum of Manhattan; Educare; FirstBook; LitLab and Kidappolis; The National Head Start Association; The Primary School; Public Prep; SEL4US; Start Early; Too Small to Fail; and Zero to Three. Collaborators are sharing content with Big Heart World’s web-based hub. They are also sharing Big Heart World resources with the parents, caregivers, and educators in their communities — from hosting music classes to sharing the parent/caregiver and educator guides.

“We are thrilled to be working with amazing organizations to bring attention to young children’s social and emotional development right now, and to help families and educators navigate the enormous challenges we all face,” said Julia Levy, the executive director of Sparkler Learning. “We hope that together with our partners, we’ll be able to both support and learn from families and educators across the country.”
