10/10/23 - BETTER KIDS PARTNERS WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE AND SAVE THE CHILDREN TO SUPPORT THE EMOTIONAL WELLBEING OF CHILDREN IN UKRAINE

Ukrainian students, educators, and families now have access to a free game-based social emotional learning app to help children cope during the war

KYIV — On World Mental Health Day, nineteen months after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 by Russian forces, the lives of millions of children have been tragically upended by a plethora of potentially traumatic events such as destruction, displacement, continuous shelling and air strikes. The need for large-scale psychosocial support is acute to help children process the difficult emotions triggered by the loss of their homes, the death of their loved ones, the lack of socialization with their friends, and to help them adapt to an ever-changing environment.

Now, parents and educators can explore a variety of social emotional learning games, tips, and practice activities for children ages 4-8 from Better Kids through its app Wisdom: The World of Emotions. This new set of resources in Ukrainian includes interactive games and Augmented Reality breathing exercises where children learn how to identify and manage their emotions in healthy ways. Printable worksheets and guided meditations help children develop important social emotional skills such as being mindful, showing kindness and empathy to others, solving problems independently, and reaching their goals with confidence.

With actionable tips, parents and caregivers are given the tools they need to manage their own stress and to nurture consistent, positive relationships with their children that will help them overcome the exposure to distressing events.

“Hundreds of Ukrainian teachers, school psychologists, and parents have already shared that our app, Wisdom: The World of Emotions, is exactly what kids need right now. It is an honor for Better Kids to provide families and educators with evidence-based tools that will have a lasting positive impact on their children’s social emotional development. We are grateful for our partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and for Save the Children’s support to bring Wisdom into every Ukrainian classroom and family for free,” says Ondine Bullot, the CEO and founder of Better Kids.
