Social-Impact Venture Better Kids Launches New Social Emotional Learning App Wisdom: The World of Emotions to Help Young Children Manage Their Emotions Through Play
SAN FRANCISCO — Better Kids today launches Wisdom: The World of Emotions, a new social emotional learning app that includes interactive digital games, Augmented Reality games, hands-on activities, parenting guides, and teaching resources to help children ages 4 to 8 develop important social emotional skills such as self-awareness, empathy, social-awareness, and self-regulation.
“Supporting children’s social emotional growth is at the heart of our mission. COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of mental health and early childhood is a critical time to develop a strong emotional foundation”, said Ondine Bullot, the chief executive officer and founder of Better Kids. “In Wisdom: The World of Emotions, children engage in fun interactive digital games. First, they learn how to identify emotions and then they practice self-regulating with healthy coping strategies, such as drawing their anger or taking ten deep breaths. We also support parents and educators with parenting guides, teaching resources and co-play activities to help them meet their children’s social emotional needs, such as feeling safe, loved, and a sense of belonging.”
Now available to families worldwide, Wisdom: The World of Emotions was originally created as a game-based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum for schools who support explicit instruction of SEL. Child therapists and special education teachers were among the early adopters of this evidence-based approach, whose efficacy was confirmed by a randomized controlled trial led by a team of neuroscientists from the Center for Research in Cognition and Neuroscience. Pilar Walker, a mental health counselor in New York shared: “Some students abruptly do things - they storm out and slam doors. Wisdom helped them recognize the triggers and identify that an emotion was happening, and it gave them the words to describe it.”
Featured by Apple on its App Store, Better Kids’ subscription-based app Wisdom: The World of Emotions launches with the following content:
10 adaptive interactive digital games, focusing on themes such as facial expressions, voice intonations, body language, physiological reactions, conflict resolution, and emotional vocabulary
3 Augmented Reality mindful breathing games where Wisdom, the main character, appears in your home or classroom and coaches children through different breathing techniques
20 printable worksheets to reflect on important social emotional skills such as gratitude, empathy, and problem-solving
20 guided hands-on activities
15 COVID-19 parenting guides to support parents with challenges such as managing challenging behaviors, sleep routines, and sibling relationships
200 ready-to-use SEL teaching resources for community-building, mindfulness, and brain breaks
Wisdom: The World of Emotions is available in English on iOS and Android. Users can explore content for free and purchase a subscription for unlimited access. More SEL content such as games, activities and meditations will be regularly added. Additional languages are expected to be included within the next few months.
