04/25/24 - BETTER KIDS PARTNERS WITH BLUE STAR FAMILIES TO SUPPORT THE EMOTIONAL WELLNESS OF MILITARY FAMILIES

Military families in the Blue Star Neighborhood now have access to Better Kids’ social-emotional learning resources to support their children’s emotional wellness.

SAN FRANCISCO — Military families face unique challenges that are significant stressors in the daily lives of parents and their children. Global conflict and unrest have led to the deployment of large numbers of military personnel, making the military lifestyle increasingly stressful.

Blue Star Families supports more than 275,000 military family members through evidence-based programs and resources to empower families to thrive as they serve. The Blue Star Neighborhood is the nation’s largest digital community solely focused on supporting military-connected families and connecting them with their neighbors to create vibrant communities of mutual support.

Now, parents in the Blue Star Neighborhood can access a variety of social-emotional learning resources from Better Kids, through the Better Kids Neighborhood. Through this digital platform, parents can discover actionable tips to support their children as they navigate the unique challenges of military life such as frequent relocations, lengthy separation from a parent, and the potential trauma of having a parent seriously injured or killed. Printable activities, interactive games, and practice activities will help children learn healthy coping strategies, develop problem-solving skills, and grow their self-compassion and resilience.

“Month of the Military Child is a wonderful time to celebrate and honor our military kids' many strengths. Though their resilience is something that is often recognized, we understand that they don't come by that easily. That is why we are thrilled to share resources for our youngest military kiddos from Better Kids within the Blue Star Neighborhood. Created with CASEL's core SEL competencies, the Better Kids Community will offer monthly blog posts, printable activities, and more centered around various themes to support parents and children in managing emotions and establishing positive relationships.” Ryan Callahan, Vice President of Digital Innovation, Blue Star Families

“As we celebrate the Month of the Military Child and this year’s theme Taking Care of Our Military Children, we want to honor the resilience of military children who move six to nine times on average during their K-12 education and must cope with uncertainty, change, and separation from loved ones, in addition to all the regular childhood challenges. It’s an honor for Better Kids to partner with Blue Star Families to provide military families with evidence-based tools that will have a lasting positive impact on their children’s emotional well-being,” says Ondine Bullot, the CEO and founder of Better Kids.
